Dear friends and well wishers,
“Good and honest citizens”, was the dream Don Bosco had for the young people. In order to realize this dream he evolved a method of education known as “The Preventive System”, with its three key elements; Reason, religion and Loving kindness. "Reason" emphasises basic human values such as the freedom and dignity of the individual, the primacy of conscience, the goodness of creation and culture, and the worth of work and social living. “Education includes encouraging the responsible use of freedom to face issues with good sense and intelligence. It involves forming persons who readily understand that their own lives, and the life of the community, are in their hands, and that freedom is itself a great gift” says Pope Francis. "Religion", indicates that his pedagogical approach is essentially transcendent, that it emerges from and is oriented towards relationship with God.
Loving-kindness implies that the atmosphere in which education occurs must be one of love, where human values are genuinely respected and promoted and where there is openness to the spiritual dimension of life. It is an atmosphere marked by a "family spirit" in which there is mutuality in human relationships and a full range of joyful and stimulating educative activities. Holy Father Pope Francis in his apostolic Exhortation “Amoris Laetitia” emphasises on formation of habits and values in the children in families. “The family is the first school of human values, where we learn the wise use of freedom. Certain inclinations develop in childhood and become so deeply rooted that they remain throughout life, either as attractions to a particular value or a natural repugnance to certain ways of acting”.
This dream of Don Bosco has been carried out worldwide through various educational institutions of Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), commonly known as Salesian sisters of Don Bosco by providing quality and holistic education in a family environment.
